Capture frames in WebM videos using FVI A little info about webM, WebM is an open media file format designed for the web. Its files consist of video streams compressed with the VP8 video codec and audio streams compressed with the Vorbis audio codec. The file structure is based on the Matroska media container. more info Ok, so now you have downloaded, or had a WebM video that you want to put up in a site, and you want to make thumbnails for it to post in your blog, social site etc. And, you probably have already installed the Fast Video Indexer (FVI) because this is the one were using, if not then download it here. If you have conflicts like the one below, then there’s a problem with the codec and it goes something like this. This Error comes up! If this happens there is a problem with your codec pack, if you have an FFDshow pack; which I have but didn’t work out. And so, I downloaded a new codec pack; because directshow packs doesn’t support some web codecs. Download the K-Lite Codec pack instead, when this error comes up FVI will prompt you to download either the XP codec [...]

A new update from Fast Video Indexer, from the past a lot of version have been made and all have been greatly helpful. Default mode: Sample Clips, Captured every frame at 20s (Name by ImageNo set to 1) Note: Be careful to avoid name duplication’s if you have saved index pictures in the same folder as your thumbnails. Previous Version: Fast video indexer v1.22 Installer now optionally downloads and installs ffdshow. Most peoples codec issues are solved if they have this installed. If you missed installing it, click on the image to download manually.
Any Video Converter So, in using the AVC (Any Video Converter) we will convert your downloaded videos in any format. This is a continuation from How to Download Video Files and Convert it to any Format Let’s continue, These are the formats that you could choose from. MPEG-4 Movie for mobile phones; AVI, MPEG I-II, Matroska, Also Supports Webm Vidoes, so its great for uploading it to websites using HTML5. HTML5 Tutorial here. We have chosen our format to convert, now let’s configure it and find out some tweaks AVC has to offer. AVC is one of the very useful tools for windows it offers many advance features like converting it to 720p to 1080p for video editing purposes and image quality is still retained after conversion . So, something that is FREE, that’s a lot of help coming from them. You can set you config’s here, input start-time and end-time of the video. Also, You could edit the Videos Bitrate and Frame-rate so you could manually sync your videos to your player. Some video players like MP4′s and Zune has a specific codec and framerate to play the videos, so better read your media players settings before you [...]

Image by libraryman via Flickr So here is some info that should be useful if you are creating or thinking about creating video games… Action games are coming into fashion again. Game consoles have their download services where action games are the top sellers and the new mobile devices like iPhone and Android have opened up a whole new market for small and quick action games. In action games you need your game to respond to input as quick as possible. This is Key! Creating a fast responding action game can be a real challenge, and knowing just how long latency your game has isn’t trivial, even if you created it. For this discussion I’ll use the term latency for the time between when you press the fire button in a game to when you see your player actually firing in the game. Latency, or network latency, is often used for network game and there you see extra latency caused by your connection to other players over internet. Let’s just save that whole discussion for another day. When something happens on your computer screen it takes a few mili-seconds before you will react and press a button in response on [...]

Welcome to the new official blog for the Fast Video Indexer software. My name is Fredrik Lönn and I am the author of the software. If you are reading this you probably already know about Fast video indexer. Well just in case, let me tell you in short… this is after all the first post on this blog. Fast Video Indexer is a Windows program that takes a number of videos files and automatically extracts photos from them. It can combine the extracted photos into a single collection images that gives you a clear instant view of the entire video clip. And, it can create an html page that can serve as a preview if you want to put the video on the web. In the latest version I added a new feature that now makes it possible to create an entire video preview web site for several videos. So how do people use Fast Video Indexer? Video professionals use it to organize videos they work with, to faster find video scenes and save time. Video enthusiasts use it to keep track of their video collection and to quickly preview videos I made the program to be able to browse [...]
